Highgate Celebrates Our Commitment To The Real Living Wage

We’re thrilled to announce that Highgate has been accredited as a Living Wage Employer, a proud moment that highlights our commitment to fair pay and the well-being of everyone in our team.

This accreditation means that everyone at Highgate will earn a minimum hourly wage of £12.60 in the UK or £13.85 in London. These rates are significantly higher than the government minimum for workers aged 21 and over, which currently stands at £11.44 per hour.

The Living Wage goes beyond the statutory minimum wage, it’s a benchmark calculated based on the real cost of living. Unlike the government minimum wage, it ensures that people can afford the essentials like housing, food, and transportation, helping them to thrive, not just survive.

At Highgate, we’re particularly proud that this calculation is based on our full contracted hours, even though our 4-day week policy means employees work just 80% of those hours. This policy also highlights our commitment to supporting our team.

As Jenny Latimer, our Operations Director, says:

“Highgate has always been committed to supporting their employees. Our salaries have always been above minimum wage, and even above living wage. This step of becoming accredited, confirms that for now and going forward we will continue to pay our employees Living Wage, or above.”

By becoming an accredited Living Wage Employer, we’re proud to be part of a network of responsible businesses across the UK. These companies recognise that paying the real Living Wage is not only the right thing to do but also a sign of a responsible employer.

Katherine Chapman, Director of the Living Wage Foundation, shared her thoughts on our achievement:
